Passenger and goods transport

Passenger transport policy is put into effect by means of legislation, guidelines and transport service purchases. The aim is a safe and environmentally friendly transport system.

The Government Programme states as the objective of transport policy to promote a social structure and regional development that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. The ability to guarantee fast, safe, economical transport is also crucial for national and international competitiveness.

Purchases of train, sea, air, bus and coach transport services ensure basic public transport services in the whole of Finland. The Ministry also aims to promote walking and cycling.

In goods transport the Ministry will specifically work to curb the rising costs, to secure an efficient transport market and to strengthen logistics know-how. The objective is to increase healthy and prevent unfair competition and thus ensure efficient and versatile services.
