Seven applications for a digital mobile communications network licence were submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland. A part of the frequencies released from NMT450 mobile phones are now available. The licence will be issued to supplement the fixed broadband connection supply. The deadline for the applications was 29 April.
Applications were submitted by Cubio Communications, Digita Oy, Elisa Corporation, Finnet Broadband Networks Ltd, LynxNet Oy, Nordisk Mobiltelefon and Saunalahti Group.
The licence aims to promote broadband in accordance with the Government broadband strategy. The objective is to enhance the broadband connection supply in sparsely populated areas and areas with recreational housing as well as in the archipelago. Data transfer services, which are not geographically bound, of portable computers will improve as well.
